"About Me"
Name:
Queenie Chan
Studio: CKY
Studios (a one-person endeavour)
Year of Birth:
1980
Place of Origin:
Sydney, Australia
I started drawing manga
back in 1998, halfway through the year, namely to escape university
life and how incredibly boring it was. It was a rather unexpected
turn of events. I have been a manga fan ever since I was 10, but
I've never been much interested in drawing before. Nor have I
had any art-training (though that is no longer a disadvantage).
I knew I had artistic abilities, but I have never once thought
of applying it to drawing manga, until one day, while leafing
through a copy of Rurouni Kenshin (by Watsuki Nobuhiro), I thought
to myself... "Hey, maybe I can do this." And so it all
began...
I still think my best
quality is that I actually manage to finish stories.
To date, I haven't
published any of my work. It's too bad... I certainly would want
a wider audience (and make some money out of my efforts!). But
unfortunately, I live in Australia, a place with a non-existent
comics/manga industry. It's a joke... I mean, this entire country
only has a population of 20 million anyway - 3 million in Sydney
- so how many people can you reach via traditional publishing
anyway?
Better to put
my stuff on the internet.
I'm doing this for
free, but if there's one thing worse than drawing manga for free,
it's drawing manga for free, but with no one reading it at all.
If these don't go on the internet, then they go into the drawer,
gathering dust. And what exactly is the point of that?
None, really. So as
much as I would like to make some money, complete oblivion is
worse. I do what I do because I want to draw, and I want to share
what I have I drawn, and the stories I have written. So if you're
reading this, please direct as many people as
you can to this website - whether they're interested in manga/comics
or not. Maybe one day I'll be rich and famous and charging everyone
money to read my stuff, but the stories that you find here will
always be here. And the best part about that is that they're actually
finished stories.
