band bio
intro: So what are Juno-2? Who are they? What do they sound like? This bio page will attempt to give the answers to these questions. history: Juno-2 were named in a fit of desparation by Jim after the Smith's (Rosy and Tom, not that flower-swinging ponce Morrissey) gorgeous but knackered old 80's synth. They were formed in the summer of '98
by Tom and Dave (friends from high school) on guitars and bass and Rosy (Tom's sister) on vocals plus a drummer. sound: There now follows a poor attempt to describe Juno-2's sound in words: news: This section has moved to a new page. Prior to this they had existed in many different incarnations; usually with pretentious and/or preposterous names. Their first 'proper' gig in Newcastle saw them supporting metal-monsters Fowl who had recruited Jim as their keyboard player. Juno-2, looking for something to complete their sound, were inspired by Jim's keyboard skills and
decided to invite him along to their next practise - he became a fully-fledged member soon after.
Now a five piece, Juno-2 continue to play gigs, each one more frenzied than the last - branching out into Leeds and York and establishing fan bases in those cities as well as Newcastle. Recently, they played at the Window on the World festival: Europe's largest free music festival.
The members of Juno-2 are influenced by a diverse array of music and sounds. Elements of Radiohead, Nirvana, The Cure, Faithless, Belle and Sebastian, Death in Vegas, Mogwai and Whale are present to some extent in their songs (or at least they'd like to think they are). Most Juno-2 sets will veer from energetic grunge-punk to pop songs to huge epic songs to small-crafted beautiful songs.
Never content with playing the same instrument twice in a row, guitar and bass swapping frequently occurs live.
This, of course, brings you no closer to knowing what they actually sound like... Thankfully, there are now some mp3s available to download for free on the band's fibbers web page.
