Writing
is a lot like working out, one
writer claimed. You start from
little "weights" - and
slowly increase your capacity.
Here are series of writing
exercises that would hopefully
build up your writing muscles.
Writing Exercise (Activity) #2
"POT
PASTE POETRY"
1) Get a stack of old magazines,
a container (could be an
envelope, folder, hat, vase, etc)
and a pair of scissors. As you
skim through the magazines, cut
out all the words that catches
your attention. The bigger the
words in print, the better. But
feel free to cut those little
texts. Then put them all in your
container. Do this for half an
hour at least. More, if you have
the time. Just make sure you
don't get carried away with
reading the mags!
2) Once you've got a healthy
stack of words in your container,
you should go get a glue or paste
and plenty of papers. Then you
may either:
a) Take the words out randomly
and paste them on paper as they
come. Forget about making sense.
b) Choose ten to fifteen words
and arrange them on paper as you
would want them to look.
3) If you choose A - you may sort
out the words by writing
"missing words"
in-between. Or get more words
from your container. Then once
that's done, you may choose
words, phrases, or a sentence -
and develop the idea into a poem,
a prose-poem, a vignette, or a
full-length story. Do this as
well after you're done with B.
4) Let us know what you come up
with! Or you can also submit your
own favorite writing warm-ups,
activities, etc.
NOTE: The original idea from
this one came from a writing book
I read long, long ago. I wish I
could acknowledge the person who
wrote it. This exercise helped me
write a lot - and write with fun
and gusto.

you wish to send us the stuff you
were able to do with this writing
activtiy, Email Us! Subject Line:
