Neptune
God of the Sea
Neptune is the 8th planet from the sun and the 4th largest. Though it is smaller then Uranus it has more mass. When it was discovered that Uranus had an odd orbit around the sun, it was determined that something must be affecting it, the search was on! Neptune was discovered in 1846. Because of the orbit of Pluto, Neptune crosses its path so that Neptune is currently the last planet in out solar system, Pluto will be last again in 1999.The atmosphere is mostly hydrogen and helium and its core is probably layers of ices and a small rocky core about the size of Earth. Neptunes blue color is the result of red light absorbtion by methane in the atmosphere. Like all the other gas giants, neptune produces most of its own heat and the winds move at speeds of 20,000 kph! Neptune also has a few dark rings, and one even has a slight spiral twist to it.
