"This is so exciting!" Suzi just nodded in her own world. She looked out the window as city passed by with throngs of people walking up and down the street in the hot air. It was 4:00 p.m. and amazingly still in the upper 90's. Everyone was dressed to the extremes, either very 5th Avenue, or very thrift store chic, it was almost hilarious, but Suzi knew she was in the city of fashion. As they roared down Broadway in the limo she marveled at the luxurious stores and vowed to have a little 'me' time tomorrow.Ever since she got word that her first novel had been sold she'd been on cloud nine. Who would have thought it would happen so soon? One day she was sitting in her little house in Texas enjoying the country life and just having a good time and the next her best friend a.k.a. self proclaimed manager was knocking on her door with a royalty payment that had more zeros than she'd ever seen, outside of Algebra class. It was still so unreal. After a couple of weeks of rest and realization she was going on her first public interview?the David Letterman Show. She was both scared and excited. This was the start of a whole new life. She had three television interviews, a few radio shows and a couple of book signings all in the span of two weeks and then she would hopefully be a household name. Her privacy, however, would be gone and that was what she cherished the most living in Texas. She was known around town for her writing skills but in her small town, you were also known for keeping your trash out longer than a week. Now she envisioned bodyguards, shopping in closed stores and Michael Jackson wigs. "Ugh, I would never." She said at the thought.
"Okay?and that outburst would be because?" Katrina sat across from her, a glass of champagne in her hand and her planner in the other. "Well anyway." She said shaking her head, they didn't have time for any frivolous conversation. "We're so late, so you'll get there in time for a little make-up and then you'll be on."
"In this?" Suzi said sweeping her hands over her long velvet dress. "It's so, funeral!"
"Sorry chica, but who was it that insisted on a full spa treatment before the show? You have no time, nada tiempo! Besides, it looks fine, you look upper Long Islandish." She grinned at her friend. This was just as exciting for her as it was for Suzi.
"Yeah, coming from a girl from California."
"Okay damnit, upper Bel Air. You'll be the Fresh Princess of Bel Air. How's that?" Suzi was about to answer when they turned into the lot of the studio.
"We're here, I'm shaking, give me some Champagne." The nervousness hit her like a ton of bricks. Katrina handed her a glass of champagne and they toasted to a successful show. "By the way, who's on besides me?" She wouldn't even have time to meet any cool celebrities. She knew she was last up and how late they were there would probably be no one in the room waiting.
"Beats me, but don't worry, you'll outshine them all."
"Yeah, famous last words." Suzi grinned before downing her drink.
~~~~ "Okay you just relax have some grub and I'm going to go talk to the producer okay?" Katrina walked out of the green room leaving Suzi alone and nervous. Suzi had about 5 minutes before she was on. Katrina thought it was weird that they weren't showing the show backstage or at least feeding audio but she had a job to do. She found the producer, introduced herself and let him know that her client was in. He had her sign a few forms and also a guest sign up sheet. "By the way, who else was on the show today?" She asked as she signed the last page.
"Well we have Garth Brooks, he was already on, Chris Tucker, Suzi and, if he makes it on time Donnie Wahlberg is supposed to end the show."
"I'm sorry, who?" Surprised Katrina looked up. He did not just say that last person.
"Donnie Wahlberg. You know that ex New Kid turned actor. He's got a new movie."
"Ya don't say?" This was going to just make Suzi's day if she woke up from her fainting spell. This was absolutely too good to be true. After years of lusting after him from afar, he was now going to be on the same stage as her? "Okay well, thanks." Kat made her way back to the green room and was about to bust out with the information when a thought occurred to her?surprise.
"Okay you're almost on, here let me get your hair, powder you some more, adjust your dress." Katrina advanced on her trying to get her absolutely perfect.
"Damn, you'd think I was about to hit the runway for the Ms American Pageant." Suzi struggled away from Katrina's hands and took in one breath as the producer came to escort her on stage.
"Oh!" Katrina hugged her quickly and wished her luck and seconds later, Suzi was on stage.
