**for Suzi**
Rated G (For now)
"For the LAST time I am NOT about to go to bed with him." Suzi held her purse as she and her friend got out of the cab and walked into the entrance to the Waldorf. Suzi's black cocktail dress was the object of Katrina's skeptizm since they left the hotel. By the time they got back from the show, Suzi took the bathroom hostage getting ready for their drink with Donnie. She swore up and down that she had nounderlying motive, she just wanted to look good. "What would you rather me walk up in here with jeans and a Marilyn Manson t-shirt?"
"Hardly. I'm just saying, going in there looking like that" Her comment trailed off as they were shown to the bar. Looking at her friend, you'd swear she was on some hot date. They walked through the doorway and seconds later saw Donnie sitting at the bar. As they walked toward him, he turned and smiled, holding up his glass of some clear liquid to acknowledge them.
"Ladies." He was wearing black pants and a nice blue shirt. Suzi had to hold herself back from jumping him at that moment. He looked so handsome, a far cry from the jeans and t-shirts of 8 years earlier. Even Katrina was taken aback by his classy appearance.
"Hello Donnie." Suzi stopped right in front of him. She noticed him looking her up and down. Why couldn't this had happened two years ago when he was a single man. Feeling like an idiot just standing there she held out a brown-paperbag wrapped book. "I believe you were asking for this."
"Thank you so very much. I will treasure it always." He took the book and set it down in front of him hardly taking his eyes off her. "What will you have?" He acknowledged them both. Suzi ordered a Martini and Katrina looked at her like she was crazy. The girl from Texas drinking a Martini? This she had to see. She herself ordered a Long Island Ice Tea. After they received their drinks, Donnie escorted them over to a table in the corner.
"So, now tell me about yourself." He said to Suzi as they got situated.
"Nothing much to tell. I'm from a small town in Texas, I went to school for a teaching degree and wrote in my spare time. I'm into music, racing, and just plain having fun." She took a sip of her drink and tried hard not to spit it back out.
"Not your style huh?" Donnie gave her throaty laugh as she tried to elegantly sip the vial liquid.
"It shows?"
"It ain't my cup of tea either."
"Here." Katrina rolled her eyes and handed Suzi her drink and Suzi readily took a sip. It was strong, but definitely not as strong as that Martini.
"I could never understand that stuff. Hey if I'm going to drink Vodka, why not drink it straight from the bottle than trying to make it look good in a triangle glass. It still tastes the samelike shit." Both ladies agreed. "So what's your story?" Donnie turned his attention to Katrina and Suzi was thankful, she had to get herself together after that drink.
"Not too much, live in LA, went to school for law, but as a favor to my friend became her manager, etc., and here I am."
"That's it? No marriages, kids, holidays in Colorado? What's up with that?"
"Sorry, we don't lead the kind of jetset life that you do. And no, neither one of us is married. And speaking of, hows yours." Suddenly Suzi kicked Katrina under the table. How dare she.
"Oh my marriage? It's going." Donnie looked surprised that she would ask. He didn't think either of them would know about it.
"Don't act so surprised. We're fans, remember?" Suzi wanted to die right then and there. She now wished Katrina would get up and go somewhere else before she embarrassed her any more.
"True. I didn't even think of that. Well the marriage is fine and my son is the greatest." They talked for a little while after that before Katrina actually did excuse herself from the table.
"Your friend, she doesn't seem to care for me much." Donnie observed.
"Nah, she likes you, it's justwell." How could she tell him that Katrina was leary of his motives towards Suzi.
"She thinks I'm making moves on you right? And she's trying to protect you."
"Apparently yes. I'm sorry, she shouldn't have to"
"Waitwhat if I am?" The conspiratory tone to his voice hadn't gone unnoticed by Suzi. Suddenly she was breathing a little heavier and wondering what movie was she really watching unfold.
"You mean, you like me?"
"I'm not going to lie and say I don't, but I respect your friends wishes. She's trying to look out for you. That's a good thing."
"Yeah, sometimes." She mumbled and Donnie laughed.
"You are a very attractive woman, and obviously intelligent to have a best seller book out."
"Nah, anyone could write something and have it published." Suzi said modestly.
"Like I said, to have a best seller, you have to be somewhat intelligent. Don't tell me you aren't. Anyway, yes I'm married, yes I love my son, but I'm not dead."
"But you're not a cheater. Are you?" She looked at him daring him to answer.
"No, I'm not, but, I hate to let an opportunity pass me by."
"An opportunity?" She laughed. "Donnie this is just" She was about to answer when Katrina came back to the table.
"Okay, so what'd I miss?" She slid in next to her friend and took a sip of her drink.
"Oh nothing much." Suzi said giving Donnie a look.
