The First Encounter

At Rei's temple, everyone was gathered. When the initial reactions were over ("Seiya!" "Yaten!" "Taiki!" "Rei!" "Mako!" "Ami!" "I'm not dreaming, am I?" "No, Minako, you're not dreaming."), the three lights started their story.

"We returned to our planet after Galaxia was returned to her normal self. As we began rebuilding our lives, a new group of beings came onto our planet. They came on a day when our star shone the brightest. It looked like a pleasant day, in which nothing bad could happen. We were wrong to judge so quickly. Their approach was preceded by a haze of darkness. It was pitch black and dense as well. You could see nothing. No light could shine through. It lasted for a few seconds, though it felt like hours. There was an uncertainty that hung in the air. Everywhere people were shouting to stay in touch and not get lost. When all the darkness cleared, we saw one of 'them' standing at every corner. ("What do you mean by 'them'?" "I mean, one of those Malias, Usagi." "Huh? What's a 'Malilies'?" "Uh, *sweatdrop* keep on listening.")

"They seem to have a leader. She floated in mid-air and spoke:

'We are going to spare your pitiful planet,
it is not worth fighting over.
There is a fee for this kind act.
I need fifty of you to 'feed' my pets.'

And she stared into the crowd of people that stood in front of her. In an instant, fifty of them disappered. The black haze returned before we could respond. As the darkness crept all around us, we heard the same voice say:

'They are the Malias!
Never forget that.
We are seeking the moon princess!
She owes us a favor.'

Beware, Usagi."

"We can take them on!" Rei shouted enthusiastically.

"It isn't that simple," Luna brought her down to reality. Turning to Seiya, she asked, "You said that the leader took fifty people with just a stare?"

"Yes and they all disappeared before we could attack. We don't know if our powers are strong enough to face them."

"We can find out," Artemis said.

"How?" Everyone turned to him.

"Look." He pointed to the sight outside the window.

There was a black haze already filling up the air. The sun was being blocked, but the moon shone through. Though it had been a sunny and bright afternoon before, it was now dark as midnight. No building lights or streetlamps could shine through. The people on the streets could only gaze up at the moon, the only light shining.

"Attack at the first chance you get!" Mako yelled.

"Where are they?" wondered Minako.

From inside the temple, it was too dark to see anything. The haze filled the room for a few seconds. Everyone was silent in a nervous tension. The haze began to be dispelled.

"Is everyone all right?" Mamoru asked.

"I'm surprised Usagi hasn't complained of the darkness, yet," Rei snickered.

"Rei, that's not nice," Ami complained.

"Usagi?" No answer. "Usagi?"

The haze was completely cleared. The sun once again outshone the moon. People looked around confused and dazed at what happened.

"Was it an eclipse?" one woman asked.

"No, it was too dark," another replied.

"I wonder, what was it?"

"Usagi!" Looking around, everyone noticed something.

"She's gone!"

"But that's only the begining," a woman said. She was outside the window, floating in mid-air. "They intend to takeover the entire Earth and all of Crystal Tokyo. They're also playful. They wish for you to play with them once, before your deaths. I have come to issue their challenge to all senshi. Come to a fight in the meadow against me. Come and save Usagi..." her voice echoed as she disappeared.
