| PAST ISSUE # 15 Questions Kids Ask About God Question: Why do they call it Good Friday if that's the day Jesus died? Answer: The day Jesus died is called "Good Friday" because it was a good day for us - Jesus died for us, in our place. That day was both a happy day and a sad day. It was sad because Jesus suffered and died. But it was happy because Jesus paid the penalty for our sins. At that time, the day was not seen as Good Friday. But by Easter morning, after Jesus had been raised from the dead, everybody knew it was good. Key Bible verses: Matthew 27:32-28:20 My views: The Gospel was also called the good news because it told people how to be saved and go to heaven (Mark 1:14). In my last issue, I talked about Jesus' divine mission. His mission was to die for the sins of the world, being the sacrificial lamb for the atonement of our sins. Imagine, you are on death roll for a horrible crime you have committed. And a few hours before your execution, the prison warden tells you that you will be set free if you just believe that someone has taken your place in the execution. What would be your reaction? Initially, disbelief, of course. Because you probably cannot comprehend how someone can be so loving and selfless to sacrifice his own life for yours? You probably ask yourself, why would someone giveup his own life for a criminal? But someone did! And that someone is Jesus Christ who died for your sins. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16) Now, the onus is upon you that in order for you to be set free or saved, you must believe that Christ Jesus died for your sins. Do you want to believe in the good news?
