Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: Who is the devil?

Answer: The devil is also called Satan. The word devil means "liar" or "enemy." Satan used to be an angel. But he wanted to be like God, so he fought against God. God kicked him out of heaven. Ever since then, Satan has worked on earth, trying to defeat God and God's people. He is God's enemy. But God is far stronger than Satan. In the end, Satan will be thrown into hell and suffer forever.

My views:
The devil is all of the above, and worst of all, he is God's enemy as well as yours. Why is the devil our number one enemy? First, he is jealous of our special relationship with God and wants to take away our rightful inheritance in God's kingdom. The devil does it by tempting us to sin, accusing us of wrong doings, deceiving us to disbelieve, and tricking us to turn away from God. Second, the devil is more clever than us, and constantly schemes and plots against us, especially God's children. The devil knows our weaknesses by sending his army of demons (other fallen angels) to study us. He knows how to cause us to sin and turn away from the true God. But, the devil has already been defeated when Christ Jesus took away the power of death from the devil (Hebrews 2:14-15). Believers need not fear the devil and his ploys because Christ Jesus is always on our side (Romans 8:38-39). In the end, God will send the devil and his demons into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10). Isn't that wonderful news of victory? In the meantime, let me pose you this question: has the devil taken away your rightful inheritance in God's kingdom?
