Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: What is the Lord's Supper?

Answer: The Lord's Supper is also commonly known as the Holy Communion, the Eucharist or the Breaking of Bread. It is a Sacrament which Jesus commands His followers to do (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). Christians partake in the Lord's Supper so that we remember Jesus' passion, death, resurrection, and second coming. As we eat from the same bread and drink from the same cup, we express our fellowship with Christ and other Christians.

Key Bible verses:
Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17, 11:23-26

My views:
Do you know that if we partake in the Lord's Supper without accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are putting judgement upon ourselves (1 Corinthians 11:27-30)? The Lord's Supper in church is a very serious matter, thus we should come forward with an attitude of reverence and prayer. In my church, I have seen people joking loudly with one another and even making a call on their cellular phone during the Lord's Supper! I think this is an unacceptable behaviour during the Lord's Supper as it shows a lack of reverence and awe for God's presence. St Paul the Apostle also reminds us to examine ourselves before we partake in the Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11:28). We need to make sure that Christ is only Lord of our life, and not other idols. If you have eaten the bread and drunk the wine without accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, or having an attitude of reverence; ask for God's mercy and forgiveness now.

Last words...
(Jesus is speaking) "I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." (John 6:47-51)
