Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: How come when I become a Christian I still do bad things?

Answer: When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven (Ephesians 1:7). At the same time, God sends His Holy Spirit to guide and teach us (John 14:26). However, being a Christian does not mean that we are perfect and will never commit any sins. We will still commit sins because we, humans, have a sinful nature (Ecclesiastes 7:20). The only person who never sin is Christ Jesus (Hebrews 7:26). But, there is an important difference when Christians sin, we know that we have done wrong because the Holy Spirit will tell us so (Ephesians 4:30). And we must ask God to forgive us or bear the repercussions of our folly.

Key Bible verses:
Isaiah 66:2; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8; Hebrew 12:14; 2 Peter 3:11

My views:
As a Christian, I confess I do sin occasionally through my own negligence, weakness and deliberate fault. Sometimes, we sin because our flesh is weak, and we succumbs to the temptations of the world. On our own strength, we can never go through life without sinning. However, when we rely on God as our strength and redeemer, we are able to conquer our sinful nature and defeat Satan's schemes (Romans 7:24-8:2). As Christians, we must remember when we sin, we are doing a great harm to ourselves and our relationship with God. When we sin, we are crucifying Jesus Christ all over again (Hebrews 6:6). Therefore, let us ask for God's forgiveness and repent of any sins we are still harboring, and ask for His strength and grace to sustain us for holy lives to the end. Prayer:

Lord Jesus,  I admit I am a sinner. I want to confess to You my sins of...(list things you have sinned against God and fellow humans). I humbly ask for your mercy and forgiveness. I thank You for forgiving my sins and washing me clean by Your precious Blood. Lord Jesus, please send Your Holy Spirit to dwell in me so that I will not sin against You. Without You, I am hopeless and weak. Teach me, guide me, protect me, and strengthen me so that I can overcome the flesh and temptations of this world. I also ask that Your Word will dwell in my heart so that I will not sin against You (
Psalm 119:11). Lord Jesus, I thank You once again for dying for a wretched sinner like me so that I can have eternal life in Your loving presence. Amen.

Last words...
"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:8-9)
