Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: What is a miracle and are the miracles in the Bible true?

Answer: A miracle is a supernatural act which cannot be explained by science. Examples of miracles in the Bible are the parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14:26-31), bringing a dead boy to life (2 Kings 4:32-35), the virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:26-35), the resurrection of Christ Jesus (Psalm 16:10, Matthew 28:6-7) and many more. Christians believe that the miracles in the Bible are true accounts of God's divine power and majesty. To most people, the miracles in the Bible seem so unbelievable but they do happen. It is important to understand that God in the Bible is the God who can perform the miracles (Psalm 77:14). After all, if God can create the universe, He can certainly do miracles (Psalm 33:6).

Key Bible verses:
Psalm 77:11-12, 106:7-12, Mark 6:2; John 10:25, 38, 15:24; Acts 2:22, 19:11

My views:
Many people, including some Christians believe that God no longer perform miracles because His miracles are only limited to the Bible. This is not true. God's miracles are happening every minute! Where? In places where non-believers are becoming Christians. I think it is a miracle that children of darkness (non-believers) can become children of light (Christians) (Ephesians 5:8). My pastor has seen hardcore criminals and pagan mediums repenting and accepting Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Hallelujah! Isn't that a miracle when all the psychologists and statisticians say that such a person is a "gone case" and will never change for the better. But God perform a miracle by touching the hearts and spirits of these people. No amount of human rhetoric or arm-twisting can make a non-believer become a Christian. But, by the power and will of God can such miracles happen. If Christian-persecuting Pharisee Saul can become Christian-loving Apostle Paul (Acts 9:1-22), anyone can become Christian if we allow God to work His miracle in that person. Also see Issue #12.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please forgive me for occasionally not believing in Your divine miracles. I believe that You are the God who can part the Red Sea and multiply the seven loaves of bread to feed four thousands (
Mark 8:1-9). Right now, I ask that You perform a miracle before my eyes. I know a person, his/her name is (name of the person) who is very stubborn and does not believe in Jesus as his/her Savior. Right now, I ask that You touch (name of the person) so that he/she will believe. Please accomplish this so that Your Name will be a great testimony. In faith, I pray. Amen.

Last words...
"He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted." (Job 9:10)
