| PAST ISSUE # 56 Questions Kids Ask About God Question: Why do I get sick or meet accidents if God is supposed to be protecting me? Answer: There is no easy answer to this question. In the Bible, God says that He will protect His people (Luke 21:18). In the Book of Job, we can see that God's servant, Job was inflicted by Satan with sickness and ill fortune, but God protected Job's life (Job 1:12). In the life of the apostle Paul, we can see that God protected him in many perilous situations (Acts 14:19-20, 16:22-36, 18:9-11). Eventually, Paul was executed by the Romans. Does this mean that God's promise is broken? Certainly not, it shows the faithfulness of God (2 Timothy 2:13). Even in the trials and tribulations of Job and Paul, God was with them. God did not forsake them (Hebrews 13:5). God was with His servants even to the point of death. Take the first martyr of Christ, Stephen for example. God was with him when he was about to die (Acts 7:54-60). Further more, the Bible tells us that God the Father loves His Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:35). Then, how come God allow His Son to suffer and die? The answer can be found in Issue # 15. But, we have to remember that it is sometimes God's will for us to suffer and die like Jesus or Stephen. When we are at our dying bed, it is often difficult for us to understand that God will allow such ill fortune to happen to us. We would question His faithfulness and love. We would often feel self-condemned and forsaken. However, it is an important to remember that our lives belong to God (Nehemiah 9:6). He is God and can choose to do anything with our lives. If we become sick or get injured, God can use our weaknesses for His glory (2 Corinthians 2:19). God did say that He will protect us, but He also say that we will gain eternal life if we lose it for His sake (John 12:25). Isn't that wonderful news? Our life on earth is temporary and nothing can be compared to the eternal life that God will bestow upon us through His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Key Bible verses: Exodus 14:14; Psalm 27:5; Psalm 119:114; Luke 8:24-25; John 10:27-29; Hebrews 6:19 Prayer: Heavenly Father, please forgive me for accusing You for not being good to me. Please forgive me when I value my life more than You. Surely, Your promise of eternal life gives me the hope to persevere in my trials and tribulations. I thank You for Your grace and love. I thank You that You have sustained me throughout my life. I love You and I exalt You over infirmities. May Your power be made perfect in all of my weaknesses. In Jesus Christ's most precious Name, I pray. Amen. Last words... "The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life."
