| PAST ISSUE # 61 Questions Kids Ask About God Question: How do I hear God's voice? Answer: We can hear God's voice during our quiet time with Him. During our prayer or quiet time, we should spend some time listening to God. Most of the time, we pray to God for petitions and favours. There is nothing wrong with asking God for these things but we have to give God a chance to speak to us. For example, during our conversation with a friend, it would be difficult to listen to our friend if we are the only ones who talk all the time. Therefore, we need to quieten ourselves, be still in God's presence, and listen to what He has to say to us. Key Bible verses: Genesis 46:2; 1 King 19:12; Psalm 81:13; John 10:4, 16, 27; Acts 16:32 My views: I admit that listening to God's voice is very difficult. I think God wants to speak to us but we often do not give Him the opportunity to do so (Jeremiah 7:13). We are often distracted with the world, e.g. home works, television, friends, etc. It takes a lot of patience to be still and quiet in God's presence. We should not blame God when He does not seem to speak to us. There are reasons to why God does not speak to us. One of the major reasons is sin. When we sin and fail to ask for God's forgiveness, our relationship with Him is strained (Isaiah 1:15). Another reason is that we have not placed God first in our life. We may have other idols or gods in our life, such as money, status, etc. God wants our complete devotion, or else He will be speaking to us in vain. For example, it is difficult for me to teach a child if the child refuses to acknowledge me as his teacher. It is the same with God, we must first acknowledge Him as our Lord and Saviour. When we do so, He will speak to us more clearly because He knows that we will listen. Related topic in Issues # 12, 28, 53. Prayer: Heavenly Father, please search my heart if there are any hidden sins in me. Convict me of these sins, and I will confess them and ask for your forgiveness. (Spend a moment to listen to what God is speaking.) I want to be closer to You. I want to seek Your face and hear Your voice. Teach me how to do all of these things. In Your Son's most precious Name, Amen. Last words... "Be still, and know that I am God..." (Psalm 46:10) Next |
