Question: Why is it so difficult being a Christian?

Answer: It is difficult being a Christian because we are still made of flesh and live in the world. We are still subjected to the temptations of the world, such as money, lust, power, etc. We are subjected to diseases, crime and sufferings because we are living in an imperfect world. However, God knew that it will be tough to keep our faith as Christians. This is why He sent His Holy Spirit to guide and protect us. Without the Holy Spirit, we will easily succumb to temptations and fall into sin.

My views:
There are many instances in my Christian life by which I was very tempted to sin. Sadly, I confess that I succumb to some of the temptations. In retrospect, I realize that I cannot blame anyone but my own weakness and sinful desires. I feel regretful when I sin because I know that I have displeased God and severed the fellowship I have with Him. However, I have learnt an important lesson from a sermon which I heard several months ago. The answer lies with God. In the past, I found it very difficult to fight against temptations with my own strength and wisdom. But, I realized that God has already equipped me with the power from on high to battle against temptations and the evil one (Luke 24:49). That power is the Holy Spirit. These days when I are being tempted, I focus my attention on God and rely on His strength and wisdom. I would ask the Holy Spirit to give me the endurance and strength to see me through awkward situations. When I do this, the fleeting pleasures of gratifying my sinful nature seems insignificant to the overwhelming presence of God's love and grace in my life. Related topic in Issue # 55.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me focus my desires and attention on You. When I am sad, let me find joy in You. When I am lost, let me find my identity and self-worth in You. When I am afraid, let me find security in You. When I am glad, let me rejoice and praise Your Name. When I am being tempted, let me focus on Your strength and wisdom to see me through. Regardless of the circumstances, let me always focus on You. I praise and exalt You over my life. Amen.
