| PAST ISSUE # 72 Questions Kids Ask About God Question: What is the virgin birth? Answer: Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus Christ. Mary did not have relation with any man, including Joseph who was pledged to be married with her (Luke 1:27). The virgin birth of Jesus Christ tells us that Jesus is a special and unique gift from God. Only God can perform such a wonderful miracle whereby a virgin gives birth to a child. In addition, the virgin birth tells us that Jesus is not the natural son of Mary and Joseph. Jesus came about in Mary's womb through the power of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18). Jesus' virgin birth is important because He had to die on the cross as a pure and perfect sacrifice (1 Peter 1:19). If Jesus was not born of a virgin birth, He would have been stained with the original sin which is passed down from Adam (Romans 5:14). Key Bible verses: Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:34-35; John 1:14 My views: Many people do not believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ because they think it is scientifically impossible. However, why can't God, who is almighty and powerful, perform a special miracle for the birth of His Son and the Saviour of the world (Luke 2:11; 1 John 4:9)? God is God. If He can create the universe, God can certainly perform the virgin birth of His Son, Jesus Christ. God is the Creator of nature. As such, He is not subjected to the law of nature. He can overrule the law of nature as He chooses for His purpose. This Christmas, let us remember how miraculous Jesus' birth was. Related topic in Issues #49, 71. Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me how special Jesus' birth is. I believe that You are the God of salvation and miracles. I believe in Your Son as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that You can perform miracles in the lives of those who need them. This Christmas, I want to pray for (names of persons who need healing, love, solution, etc) who need a miraculous touch in their lives. Please help them so that Your Name will be glorified in their lives. Please accept my prayers for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen. Worship: Click here to sing along to Joy to the World.
