Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: What is born again?

Answer: Jesus said that we must be born again to enter the kingdom of God (John 3:3). Jesus is not talking about a physical birth but a spiritual one (John 3:5). We are born again when we confess and repent our sins to Jesus, and invite Him to be our personal Lord and Saviour. Our old sinful life is put to death because we have asked Jesus to forgive and cleanse us (Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 1:9). We are then renewed to be holy and Christ-like through the power of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16-25; Titus 3:5).

Key Bible verses:
John 1:12-13, 3:1-7; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:9-10; 1 Peter 1:3, 23

My views:
As we begin a brand new year, let us ask ourselves this question - are we born again? Sometimes, we live our Christian lives thinking that we are born again but we have forsaken our first love and lost touch with Him. For example, we may attend church every Sunday but we do not have any relationship with God. Or, we may appear to be holy in public but we habitually sin before God behind closed doors. In 2000, let us start afresh with God by confessing and repenting any sins we are still habouring to Him. Let us rededicate our lives to Jesus and proclaim Him Lord and Saviour of our lives. Let us forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead. Let us press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14).

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, I proclaim You Lord of this year, Lord of my nation, Lord of my church, Lord of my family, and Lord of my life. I confess and repent my sins to You (Tell God any sins you may have hidden from God). Thank You, Lord Jesus for forgiving my sins and remembering them no more (Hebrews 8:12). I want to start afresh in Your holy presence. Make me the person You want me to be so that I may please You, and testify Your glory and love among the nations. Amen.

Last words...
