Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: How do I do my quiet time?

Answer: We can do quiet time by reading a passage of the Bible and praying to God. Before we read a Bible passage, we ask God to give us understanding and to speak to us through His Word (Bible). After reading the Bible, we can reflect on how God's Word can apply in our life. It is important to remember that quiet time is time spent with God, as such enjoy it like spending time with a very special Friend.

Key Bible verses:
2 Chronicles 7:14; Amos 5:4; Psalm 27:8, 105:3-5; Matthew 6:33; 1 Corinthians 13:12

My views:
After being a Christian for a two years, I occasionally found doing my quiet time tedious and routine. It became dull instead of joyful. So, what was my mistake? My mistake was to do my quiet time as an academic pursuit. It was bible study instead of getting to know my special Friend, God. I am not saying that it is bad to do bible study but quiet time is not bible study. Quiet time is building a personal relationship with God through prayer and reading His Word. One of my Christian friends made a very interesting observation. He said that he enjoys doing his quiet time because it is like reading love letters from God. As for me, I do my daily quiet time because I know it is the only way to seek God, and know His will and purpose for my life. If you want to know God in an intimate way, do your quiet time daily. There is no short cuts in knowing God and seeking His face.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I want to commit myself to spend time with You every day. Please send Your Holy Spirit to teach and guide me as I spend my time reading Your Word. Please give me a burning desire to seek You with all my heart, mind and spirit. In Your Son's most precious Name, Amen.
