Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: Why does God let wars happen?

Answer: Wars are a result of sin in the world. Because people aren't perfect, sometimes they get angry and fight. When leaders of countries do this, wars start. Wars are like fights between people, only much, much bigger. If people followed God's instructions for living, there would not be wars. God wants people to get along, not to fight and kill each other. But if we ignore God and break his rules, we suffer. God could stop all wars and fights in this world. But God wants humans to trust and obey Him, and to live in peace with each other.

Key Bible verses:
James 4:1-21 Corinthians 13:4-7

My views:
I sometimes ask myself, why does God let my birth place, Indonesia suffer so much? Why are there famine, hunger, poverty, violence, and death in Indonesia? Economist can always argue that the economic collapse is due to over spending and borrowing. Others would say it's due to nepotism, corruption and cronyism. I agree with them but in my opinion, God is doing this because He is punishing Indonesia for her pride, greed and persecution of God-fearing people in East Timor. What is the likelihood of Indonesia experiencing an economic collapse, and natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, floods, droughts within such a short period of time? Coincidence? I think not.

Jeremiah 34:17
"Therefore, this is what the Lord says: You have not obeyed me; you have not proclaimed freedom for your fellow countrymen. So I now proclaim 'freedom' for you, declares the Lord--'freedom' to fall by the sword, plague and famine. I will make you abhorrent to all the kingdoms of the earth."

Friends, God is certainly in control of the events in Indonesia and the world. The terrible events in Indonesia are not random; they serve a purpose according to God's plan. I have faith that Indonesia will one day repent and be redeemed in God's love and grace. Amen.
