Module 2 - Communicating effectively
Contents:
Expands on personal effectiveness
(module 1) towards developing interpersonal effectiveness.
Articulates a model for communication;
communication styles and perception filters; communication roles and functions
in the workplace; empathy, rapport and influencing techniques.
Reviews & refines basic skills
- Active listening, questioning for different purposes, accurate and assertive
delivery;
Writing effectively and efficiently
for business correspondence.
Learning Outcomes
On completing, participants should
be able to:

Use a range of verbal and non-verbal
communication skills including active listening, open-ended and precision
questions, and presenting information effectively,

Demonstrate empathy and establish rapport
with others including colleagues, managers and clients,

Identify and discuss their own communication

Identify and discuss strategies for
positively and ethically influencing the behaviour of others,

Write business documents to a relevant
enterprise or industry standard.

Module 3 - Conflict management & negotiation
Contents:
Applies motivation and goals theory
from Module 1 and communication skills from Module 2 in a win/win framework.
Explores: emotional elements, and
appropriate responses, in conflicts; needs and fears; forms and uses of
power; processes for mapping conflicts and problem-solving. Articulates
models of conflict, and processes for negotiation and mediation.
Learning Outcomes
On completing, participants should
be able to:

Identify, recognise and anticipate
the development of conflicts and potential conflicts within work relationships,

Recognise and respond positively to
others? conflict and behaviour styles,

Deal effectively with substantive and
emotional elements of conflict, including defusing aggression where appropriate,

Use win/win problem-solving strategies
and techniques to clarify and resolve conflicts,

Achieve win/win agreements with others
by effective negotiation.

Module 4 -
Teamwork -
Effective working relationships
Contents:
Applies knowledge of motivation/goals
theory, communication and conflict skills (previous modules) towards achieving
team goals with high performance and productivity.
Explores: characteristics of effective/high-performing
teams; group dynamics and communication systems; trust, respect and mutual
support; using influence for win/win outcomes; decision making processes;
consensus approach to goals and methods; negotiating and fulfilling team
roles and tasks; "managing upwards"; balancing positive relationships with
performance under pressure.

Brings together skills and theory
from previous modules within a leadership role.
Explores: Models for management
and leadership; styles of situational leadership; motivating others; delegation,
monitoring and improving performance; roles - leader, manager, mentor,
coach; systematic and strategic thinking; facilitating group processes
(eg business meetings, consultations); facilitating individuals' development.
