Strong, from Stronge

Somerset/Devon/Dorset border region (late 16th Century) -> Massachussets (1635) -> moved around between MA & Connecticut (1640s-1751)

Chard, Chardstock, and various other locations who's name includes "Chard" (ie Crim-Chard, Chard Junction, Old Chard, South Chard, etc.) are located near the three-way boundary between Somerset, Devon, & Dorset, and the boundary has shifted over the centuries, hence some records refer to a particular locale as being in one county while a different record list it in another of the three counties. Ecclesiastically (in terms of old Catholic Dioceses and later Anglican administration) the area is also a boundary- Chard belongs to the Bishopric of Bath and Wells while Chardstock is a prebendary of the Bishopric of Salisbury.
Chardland may either be a reference to these various places collectively, or it may specifically be the older name of Crim-Chard, I'm not sure.
