[ SIGN ME UP! I WANT TO JOIN CAMBr/TURF! ]
CAMBr/TURF is an internet resource for mountain bikers in and around the Chicago area.
This site contains information on local trail advocacy (our main mission), as well as info
on events and happenings, places to ride, and people to ride with. While Chicago is our
main focus, you will also find information and links pertaining to riding in the rest of
the Midwest and United States, the cycling industry, environmental issues and much more.
CAMBr/TURF is brought to you by the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (Formerly Trail
User Rights Foundation), a Chicago-area organization of mountain bicyclists dedicated to
keeping unpaved trails open to cycling and having a good time doing it! CAMBr/TURF is a
member club of IMBA (the International Mountain Bicycling Association) and a chapter of
RIDE (Recreation Individuals Dedicated to the Environment).
If you've never ridden in the area, you'd probably be surprised at the quality of mountain bicycling opportunities around Chicago. CAMBr/TURF is a great way to find out about them and to help insure that they remain an option. If you live and bike in the Chicago metro area WE NEED YOU! Membership is cheap (about the price of two inner tubes) and the benefits are great. Click here to find out how to join today!
The primary mission of the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (CAMBr) is to promote responsible trail use, to prevent trail closings, and to maintain unpaved multi-use and singletrack trails for bicycling in the Chicago area. CAMBr also seeks to promote trail bicycling opportunities through stewardship, environmental and social responsibility, education, and a spirit of cooperation among all trail users, the conservation community, and governing bodies.
CAMBr/TURF is a Chicagoland volunteer-based nonprofit organization founded in 1994
(TURF) to fulfill the aforementioned mission. CAMBr/TURF is a member club of the
International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), the national trail cycling advocacy
organization, and Recreation for Individuals Dedicated to the Environment (RIDE), a
similar regional organization.
CAMBr/TURF advocates the following programs :

First of all ride responsibly and practice soft cycling! Abide by the Rules of the Trail listed below. .
Be friendly out on the trails. Mountain bikers are a relatively new group of
trail users. Some of the more established user groups are not yet comfortable with us. Go
out of your way to be courteous, stopping for horses, slowing for hikers and offering a
kind word with every opportunity. A little kindness will go along way in easing tensions
between user groups. | |
Call and write your government officials. Let them know that you're a voter
and/or taxpayer who supports this non-motorized silent sport on public lands. Be specific
and explain how access to multi-use (wide) and singletrack (narrow) unpaved trails is
important to you. Click here for a listing of Cook County commissioners.
Join CAMBr/TURF . Membership in CAMBr helps show your commitment to Chicago area
mountain biking!. . | |
Educate your fellow cyclists. If you see someone riding irresponsibly, try to
enlighten them with the Rules of the Trail. Let them know that
irresponsible trail use will result in trail closings. . |
Volunteer to do trail maintenance. Understaffed and under funded public land holders are very appreciative of volunteer labor. 2000 Trail Days In addition to being fun, it's a great non-bike workout. CAMBr/TURF organizes maintenance days throughout the year. Check the on-line calendar for info and join us!
