March 12, 2001 Finally, we´re online! Mandy was a great help in building the site, she supervised each and every step. Now that the basic work is done, Mandy and Mummy could sit back, relax and enjoy, but... there´s a kitten in the house that hasn´t yet learnt to spell the word “cosy”. Armed with sharp teeth and claws, Bluey is busy annecting the house and all its inhabitants. It took him only two weeks to get fully integrated into the family, and now there´s no stopping him. Boogie taught him how to untie Mummy´s shoe laces without her realizing it until it is too late, he is training for the International Cat Race Superlicense with his coach Wigget, and Kelly acts as Special Athlete Diet Supervisor - that is, she clears the way for him to get to the food bowl first. Mummy says lots of fond memories come back, she has dealt with chewed-on books, paper sheets that are reduced to confetti size within the blink of an eye, and the daily fight to keep her wool for herself before, when the Milkyway Kittens grew up. If anything, she´s just surprised that one single little Bluey can make as much of a mess as a whole gang of eleven kittens could! Finally, she has figured out why knights in the Middle Ages used to wear armour, they must have had their own little Bluey...
March 17, 2001 Humans can be sooooooo rude! Can you believe that they leave their darlings alone for an entire day, just to help a friend moving? And what´s more, on a Saturday! Everybody knows that Saturday is the Crew´s favourite day as Daddy does the shopping then, and always comes home with an extra treat for the furkids (even though not every single treat that the honeys successfully beg for, like mozarella cheese and leberwurst, were actually meant for them in first instance, but who cares?). Now, honestly, we must admit that the employment conditions offered by the Milkyway Crew are excellent - extremely good payment in purrs, kitty kisses and nose rubs, Daddy has permission to keep a cat food earning job, Mummy is allowed to have a hobby (provided that the blankets she knits and crochets are made for the Royal Family), and a day off duty at Christmas and Easter is granted. So in fact we humans are guilty of violating our employment contract - not only did we fail to announce our planned outdoors activity, we also forgot to ask for permission from our masters. Mandy had every right to remind us of our duties and sentence us to reasonable punishment which includes a month´s supply of mozarella cheese and house arrest until Easter (exceptions only made for cat food earning reasons and emergencies). Oh, by the way, our friend´s move went very well, thanks for asking. Only her cats are not too keen on seeing us again - guess who “stole” their beloved scratching post and set it up again in a completely strange surrounding without asking the cat´s permission first....
April 13, 2001 Are we superstitious? No, not at all. What can a Friday 13th do to us that any other day couldn't? Infact, it was Thursday 12th that held the blow - Mummy learned that Themestream, where she had published the majority of her articles, was finally closing its doors. She decided to transfer her articles to our own site (where they belong anyway, as they're all about the Milkyway Crew), and as she would have to add some new pages she thought she might just as well give the whole site an update. Or to be more precise, start out anew - she only got her own computer back and had to transfer all the files from Daddy's computer. Daddy was busy playing some shoot'n'run game but Mummy thought it would be polite to ask him for his opinion every now and then. Daddy was not amused when his game character got tilted for the third time just because Mummy had disturbed him... But fortunately, the cats take part in everything Mummy does, and were so eager to help her. Bluey kept chasing the cursor, Angel ruined Mummy's text files by stepping on the keyboard, and Alyson kept playing with the spoon in Mummy's coffee cup until the coffee finally splashed all over the desk. Needless to say that even though Mummy was busy, the cats still wanted to nap on her lap. Having five cats between her and the screen did teach her the limits of vision, but then again, you must meet challenges to grow in terms of character and personality. We are more or less (well, to be honest, it's more less) proud to report a breakthrough - when Wigget jumped on top of the five cats that already were on Mummy's lap, we discovered that rocking chairs have a very limited loading capacity, and suddenly and unexpectedly found ourselves on the floor. Mummy asked Daddy to buy her a laptop so that she could design further updates of our site in the privacy of the bathroom but he replied in the negative. After all, the furrkids will need a new rocking chair soon... May 1, 2001 One of the lovely paradoxons of life is that nobody works on labour day! Nobody except for Mummy, of course. Ever since she moved her former Themestream articles over to our site, she found it difficult to handle the size the site was gaining. Uploading updates seemed to take forever and a day (did we mention that Mummy is not exactly the patient kind?), and besides, it was obvious that web space would soon become a problem as well. Mummy asked the crew for their opinion, and we all agreed it would be best to split the site and transfer the English version to a different host. That's why you now find us here, in a brand-new surrounding. But be assured that we, the Crew, have not changed at all. We're still fighting intruders who've come to steal our rocking chair (oops - sorry, Mummy, shall I get you a plaster?), and just recently we have taken to support Mummy in her desire to learn more about ancient Egypt. Why? Well, don't you know that ancient Egyptians worshipped the cat as a goddess? We're counting on extra leberwurst treats now... |
