	I have no doubt that you, dear visitor, love animals just as much as I do, or you wouldn´t have come here to pay us a visit in first instance. As a true animal lover, you surely have come across mischiefs and abuse, brought about by people just too ignorant or thoughtless to care. In some cases, educating owners is all it needs to bring changes about. Other cases require the united effort of countless people. But either way, the first step is to raise awareness and bring a person´s attention to a certain topic. 	“The Miracle of Life” Yes, it´s true - having the opportunity to witness the miracle of birth is a wonderful experience. What many people tend to forget, though, is that a new life also means having to take on the responsibility. So before you let your cat have “just one litter, just for the experience” - think twice, read this poem, and ask yourself: do you really need to make an experience that might include the suffering of another living being?

	“A Stone´s Throw Away” In this age of extended globalization, we all are given the unique opportunity to help out where ever our help is needed. This is a tribute to all the people world-wide who helped save the Marmaris Cat Shelter.





	“A Stone´s Throw Away” Sometimes, bad news catch you from behind when you least expect it. Soon after she moved to Turkey, Jeannie Thirkill found herself involved with cat rescue work, starting out with one male kitten that she named “Hayat” (“Life”). As time passed, the number of cats that needed her help and care increased incredibly. Jeannie moved to a location near Marmaris, where a cat shelter was built, at present homing 240 - 250 cats. All of a sudden, it was anounced that the location where the shelter resided was needed for building projects. Attempts to find a new location failed, and the authorities were not prepared to change their decision. Time was running out, and it was obvious that authorities would not refrain from killing the cats when destroying the shelter. During the last April days, this bad news was spread through the internet, animal lovers were asked for help, and the response was overwhelming. Mails were sent to the biggest Turkish Newspaper, Hurriyet, to protest against the destruction of the shelter, and numerous people contacted the mayor of Marmaris, asking him to delay building projects to give the shelter time to move. Now, on May 1, we have been informed that the Marmaris Cat Shelter has been given another 3 months. Help was just a stone´s throw away, given freely by concerned animal lovers. Saying “Thank You” doesn´t seem enough...
