Conference Papers

  • Formulation of hydrodynamic pressure on dam from water considering reservoir bottom effects.
  • Description :Computing the hydrodynamic pressures exerted on the upstream face of dams is of chief interest in designing and evaluating the safety of these structures in seismically active regions. An analysis procedure is presented in this paper to get a reliable estimate of the earthquake-induced hydrodynamic pressures on gravity dams using a closed-form formulation for the eigenvalues problem arising due to consideration of absorbing reservoir bottom condition.
    Guide : Dr. Damodar Maity
Name of Conference :International Conference on Theoretical, Applied, Computational and Experimental Mechanics (ICTACEM 2004)
    Status :Presented and Accepted
Place :Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

Projects Completed

  • Finite Element Analysis of Dam, Reservoir and Soil.
  • Description : This program first descritizes the elements namesly dam (structure), reservoir(fluid) and soil into elements based on user choice. Then it calculates stresses on Dam, fluid and structure induvidually based on forces acting on them. Entire coding part is done in VC++ GUI.
    Guide : Dr. Damodar Maity
Duration :3 months (June 2004 to August 2004)
    Status :Complete

  • Sensitivity analysis on the design of renovation of pipe racks and foundation retrofitting
  • Description : This project involves a on site problem where a pipe rack had to be redesigned for new loads/pipes to be laid on it. Sensitivity analysis ascribes the usability of the design at place where there is difference in loading. Sensitivity analysis thus creates a band of forces where the design is suitable. The foundation was redesigned using HILTI rebars
    Guide :Dr. R.Venkatraman
    Company :L & T Chiyoda
    Place :Vadodara, Gujarat, India
    Duration :1 Months (May 2005-June 2005)

  • Linear Analysis of Dam-Reservoir interaction
  • Description : The interaction between Dam and reservoir is calculated using direct coupling method. The eigen solution and the newmark integration is calculated over the entire domain.
    Guide :Dr. Damodar Maity
    Duration :2 Months (June 2005-July 2005)

Project Ongoing

  • Non Linear Fluid Structure analysis of offshore structures
  • Description : This project involve non linear analysis of fluid structure interaction. The forces on offshore structures due to earthquake disturbances and Tsunami waves have been duely taken into consideration while calculating forces on structure and fluid. Guide :Dr. Damodar Maity
    Duration :6 Months (August 2005-January 2005)
    Status :Ongoing
