When I press the download button, the message just plays
When the sound player software was installed, it associated the sound file extensions with your web browser, so it loads the player when a link is selected.
If the file has played, then the file will be found in the browser cache directory. Do a file search for *.ra, or *.wav and copy the file out of the cache directory, so it doesn't get over written.
So this doesn't happen in future, within the web browser find within any of the option menu's a section where you can change the associations so it doesn't run any of the sound players when the 'Download' button is pressed.
When you now try the 'Download' button you will be prompted on where you would like to save the file.
I would also recommend taking out as many associations as possible as this will stop the threat of viruses being automatically saved without your knowledge. It's a good way of knowing was is going to be saved.
How do I convert a sound to a different extension (i.e. ra to wav)
Get a sound converter of the net. I personally have not tried these programs out, but you can find them by doing a search for sound+converter
How do I get the message onto my machine
Well this is the hard bit, and sadly there's no easy, or good way. If you are using you modem as a answermachine then your laughing as there will be no downgrade the the message.
Sadly for those of us with the phone type of machine, quality will be lost in the transfer.
The best way I've found is to hold the speakers a couple of feet from the phone, and play the message.
Don't have the speaker volume too loud as this will add echo to the message. Try getting the best quality recording by first trying to record with your own voice.
