WHEEL Accomplishments

Women on the move….
Since it's inception, WHEEL has been working in the community on a number of different fronts, including:

  • Established and active mentoring program for girls in grades 8th and 9th at West Middle and Statesville High Schools.
  • Adopted a family with two young teenaged girls to purchase clothing and personal items for the year.
  • Partnered with the NAACP's Education Committee in the sponsoring of the "Let's Talk About It" educational youth rallies at the Bentley Center in Spring of 2002.
  • Partnered with the sponsoring groups of the Juneteenth Celebration 2002.
  • Sponsored three positive and informational social events for 3rd through 5th graders at Statesville Middle School.
  • Organized and operated the concessions at the Statesville City Classic 2001.
  • Partnered with the NAACP and other community groups in Voter Registration/Poll Day 2001 and 2002.
  • Attended school board meetings to show support for the maintenance of programs that directly impact our communities and our population.
  • Volunteered and proctored the State End of Grade Tests at West Middle School.
  • Began a book club, presently concentrating on reading the works of African-American authors.
