The Child in the Man
I asked you for your heart and soul
I asked you for your hand.
I know now that I asked too much
to give more than you can.
It was hard for me to see the truth
my heart was torn asunder.
And through my mind ripped reality
and in my head the thunder.
And in my soul I wandered lost,
from the storm I could not hide.
I felt no longer like a man
and gave way to the child inside.
The rain beat down, the wind did rage
and this boy fell to the ground.
My strength was gone, my body weak
feeling like I'd never be found.
As if I were on the plains of Kansas
as far as the eye could see
There seemed no relief from the storm inside
this child that once was me.
The storm has settled a little now
the winds have turned to mild.
But still I am only half the man
and more the little child.
And so I wallk the muddy path
the storm has left behind
Not knowing where the path will lead
or what my life will find.
But this I know, wherever it leads
in my heart is an empty space
That no one else can ever fill
no other can replace.
