HARRY
POTTER
He is the kind of person you
feel you know only by reading about him. For many people, he can be a hero, an example to
follow.
Harry lost his parents, James and Lily Potter, when he was only one year
old. Lord Voldemort killed his parents but he couldn't
kill him. Hagrid rescued Harry from his destroyed house, and
left him with the Dursleys, by order of Dumbledore. Harry grew
up thinking his parents had died in a car accident until one day, when Hagrid appears to
give him the letter from Hogwarts and tells him his true and sad story.
In Hogwarts, Harry became an idol and hero for many of the students, but there are some
jealous ones like Draco Malfoy, who hates him.
RON WEASLEY
Ron is Harry's best friend
since the moment they've met. Ron comes from a poor family and he has six brothers: Bill,
Charlie, Percy, Fred and George (twins) and Ginny.
Ron is very sensitive about his poverty, and he can't stand Draco Malfoy, who makes fun of his used clothes and books.
Ron discusses with Hermione a lot, but they really like
each other.
HERMIONE GRANGER
She is Harry's and Ron's
friend, and she comes from a Muggle family. She is the best student of the class and she
is a bit authoritative.
At the beginning, Harry and Ron didn't like her and tended to avoid her.
After a fight with a giant that almost killed Hermione in a girl's bathroom, they became
good friends.
RUBEUS HAGRID
He works at Hogwarts and lives
in a wooden house near the forbidden forest. He used to study at Hogwarts, but he was
expelled in his third year, under the false charge of opening the Chamber of Secrets L .
It was him who rescued Harry from his destroyed
house, after Voldemort killed his parents L .
In Hogwarts, Hagrid, Harry, Ron and Hermione
are friends.
DRACO MALFOY
He is Harry's
arch enemy. He is jealous, I suppose, of Harry's success in Quidditch and of the fact that
eveyone knows who he is and likes him.
The Malfoy family was once a big supporter of Lord
Voldemort.
Draco Malfoy has two "bodyguards": Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle.
ALBUS DUMBLEDORE
He is the headmaster of Hogwarts. It was him
who left Harry in Privet Drive, and he became sort of a second
father to Harry when he got in Hogwarts.
PROFESSOR MINERVA MCGONAGALL
She is the leader of the Gryffindor House. She
is severe and srict, but fair. She teaches Transfiguration.
PROFESSOR SEVERUS SNAPE
He is the leader of the
Slytherin House and teaches Potions. He is severe and cruel, and he is Harry's
second arch enemy. Snape hates Harry because he hated his father, James Potter, when they
went together at Hogwarts.
Despite his hate for Harry, Snape tries to save him from professor Quirrell, in the first book.
PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
He taught Defense Against the
Dark Arts in Harry's first year. He was very nervous and
seemed to be afraid even of the things he taught.
In the end of the first book, Harry discovers that Quirrell was a servant
of Lord Voldemort and shared his body with him.
PROFESSOR GILDEROY LOCKHART
He taught Defense Against the
Dark Arts in Harry's second year. He was an egocentric man and
he only could think about publicity.
Lockhart was convinced that Harry wanted to be like him (argh!), but
he was very wrong: Harry couldn't stand him and he avoided him as much as he could.
Well, Lockhart didn't have any knowledges about Defense Against the Dark Arts. The only
thing he knew about magic were some anti-memory spells. In the end of the second book, he
lost his memory when his own spell hit him (ah,ah,ah!)
PROFESSOR REMUS LUPIN A.K.A. MOONY
This is my favourite
character. Remember what I said about Harry? For me, it suits
professor Lupin too.
Professor Lupin taught Defense Against the Dark Arts in Harry's third year.
He was poor, his clothes were old and, despite being quite young, he had some white hair.
Soon he became the favourite teacher among the students, except the Slytherins (of
course! We all know this always happens: Slytherins don't like what the others like, and
love what the others hate! ).
When Harry had some "problems" with the Dementors, professor Lupin taught
him the "Expecto Patronum" spell, which makes them disappear.
Harry and professor Lupin became friends, so Harry was furious when he discovered that
Lupin was a werewolf L . Harry thought Lupin had helped Sirius Black
entering the castle. Well, if you read Harry Potter and the
Prisoner of Azkaban, you know it all ended well J (correction: not very well,
because Lupin had to leave Hogwarts when Snape told
the Slytherins he was a werewolf ).
Professor Lupin, along with Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew,
was James Potter's best friend.
SIRIUS BLACK A.K.A. PADFOOT
He was James Potter's best
friend, and he is Harry's godfather.
He was arrested under the false charge of being Voldemort's
right-hand man, being involved in Lily and James Potter murder and in the murder of Peter
Pettigrew.
He escaped from Azkaban to kill Peter Pettigrew (yes, he wasn't dead), but he was
caught. Harry and Hermione turned back time and saved him
from a certain death (because they knew he was innocent!).
He was an Animagus, and he assumed the shape of a big and black dog.
PETER PETTIGREW A.K.A. WORMTAIL A.K.A. SCABBERS
He was other of James Potter's
friends, but he was the one who helped Voldemort to kill
James and Lily Potter .
He was an Animagus too and, for twelve long years, ha was
Scabbers, Ron's rat.
In the end of the third book, he escapes from Lupin, Sirius, Harry, Hermione
and Ron.
LORD VOLDEMORT A.K.A. TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE A.K.A. YOU-KNOW-WHO A.K.A.
HE-WHO-MUST-NOT-BE-NAMED
He is the lord of Darkness.
Voldemort is the most terrible and feared Dark wizard.
After trying to kill Harry ( as you know, he
didn't succeed), he lost his powers and became a "dust cloud". He only has a
shape when he shares someone's body (remember professor Quirrell
).
He is only afraid of one person: Albus Dumbledore, the
headmaster of Hogwarts. |
