This locomotive is operated by Fragonset Rail for Class 33/1 Preservation Company Ltd and is currently on lease to South West Trains. (May 2003)

33108 is a class 33/1 locomotive that was used for Push-Pull working of 4TC coach sets over the non electrified mainline from Bournemouth to Weymouth until 1987.

33108 (D6521) "VAMPIRE" HISTORICAL NOTES.

33108 was built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company in September 1960 and started its working life numbered as D6521 in BR green with light grey roof and off white window surrounds with a 3 inch wide off white stripe along the middle of the body sides which extended round the cab fronts.

1963 yellow warning panels were added to the BR Green livery.

1966 D6521 was fitted with high level jumpers, three piece end handrails, gangway vestibule rubbing plates, drophead buckeye couplers and large diameter retractable Oleo buffers for Push-Pull working over the non electrified mainline from Bournemouth to Weymouth. The tail lights were removed as the red headcode blinds were considered to be sufficient. A small socket was also fitted to the cab fronts to power the warning bell and flashing light used for working boat trains along the line on Weymouth Quay.

1968 D6521 was repainted in allover BR blue with full yellow ends.

1973 D6521 was renumbered to the TOPS scheme recieving number 33108

1982 (JAN 4) 33108 worked 18:20 passenger service from Bristol Temple Meads to Porstmouth via Cardiff.

1982 (AUG 10) 33108 worked 10:34 passenger service from Weymouth to Waterloo, propelling 4TC sets 410 and 407. 410 Leading.

1982 (AUG 14) 33108 worked 16:15 passenger service from Bristol Temple Meads to Brighton via Cardiff.

1982 (NOV 15) 33108 worked 12:46 passenger service from Birmingham New Street to Leeds via Portsmouth.

1983 (MAR 28) 33108 worked 10:10 passenger service from Salisbury to Waterloo.

1983 (MAY 30) 33108 worked 15:00 passenger service from Reading to Portsmouth Harbour.

1983 (AUG 29) 33108 worked 15:30 passenger service from Weymouth to Waterloo.

1983 (SEP 16) 33108 worked 16:38 passenger service from Waterloo to Exeter St.Davids.

1983 (OCT 25) 33108 worked 22:38 passenger service from Weymouth to Waterloo.

1985 (JUL 28) 33108 worked 17:00 passenger service from Reading to Portsmouth Harbour.

1987 (SEP 7) 33108 worked 11:00 passenger service from Reading to Portsmouth Harbour, then worked 13:08 passenger service Portsmouth Harbour to Reading.

1988 (MAY 3) 33108 worked 17:25 passenger service from Salisbury to Waterloo.

1988 (AUG 9) 33108 worked 12:12 passenger service from Salisbury to Waterloo.

1988 (OCT 7) 33108 worked 14:35 passenger service from Gillingham to Waterloo.

1991 (JUL 17) 33108 + 33035 worked 07:45 Basingstoke to Exeter passenger service from Salisbury to Exeter St Davids.

1991 (JUL 17) 33108 + 33035 worked 11:55 passenger service from Exeter St Davids to Salisbury.

1992 (APR 6) 33103 allocated to NKJE pool, South, (Eastleigh).

1993 (MAY) 33108 was withdrawn and stored at Eastleigh by EWS.

1996 (APR) 33108 purchased by Class 33/1 Preservation Group.

1997 (MAY) 33108 displayed at Crewe International Electric Depot open day.

1997 (OCT) 33108 was started for the first time since being withdrawn after extensive repair work and replacement of parts.

1997 (DEC) 33108 moved to Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway for special christmas diesel event.

1999 33108 Operation transferred to Fragonset Railways on long term lease agreement.

2000 (NOV) 33108 registered for mainline working, owned by Class 33/1 Preservation Group & operated by Fragonset Railways.

2001 (JAN) 33108 repainted at Derby Fragonset works, New Fragonset livery is allover black with red stripe and full width yellow warning panel from below the cab windows. (as seen in above photos taken in May 2003)

2001 (JUL) 33108 returns to service with power unit from 33111.

2001 (NOV) 33108 Leased to South West Trains for Thunderbird rescue duties during the winter 'leaf fall' season, based at Woking.

2001 (NOV 1) Light engine driver training workings) Derby to Cricklewood.

2001 (NOV 2) Cricklewood to Woking. Woking - Haslemere - Woking (driver training).

2001 (NOV 4) (driver training turns) Worked Woking Waterloo via Staines, Waterloo to Kingston via East Putney, East Putney to Kingston via Waterloo (starting from Strawberry Hill depot). Fulwell to Woking via Kingston, East Putney, Waterloo, Richmond & Staines. Woking to Waterloo.

2001 (NOV 5) (E.C.S. workings & light engine moves) Waterloo - Wimbledon Park, Wimbledon Park - Woking, Woking - Guildford. Hauled ECS working with 73109 in tow returning light engine to Woking.

2001 (NOV 6) Worked failed EMU 3431 Woking - Waterloo, Waterloo - Guildford via Woking, Guildford - Ascot via Aldershot & return, Guildford - Waterloo via Woking. Also worked:- Waterloo - Haslemere with 3431 (ECS failed unit rescue), Haslemere - Wimbledon Park (ECS sandwiched between EMU 2412 and EMU 3431). Then worked 442412 from Wimbledon Park to Bournemouth T&RSMD (windscreen broken on London End)

2001 (NOV 7) (light engine) Bournemouth T&RSMD - Woking. Windscreen replacement sourced from 33029.

2001 (NOV 8) Worked Woking - Havant to rescue a failed train at Havant. Also worked Guildford - Fratton hauling failed units 1519 & 1563.

2001 (NOV 22) 'A' exam at Fratton.

2001 (NOV 25) (Route learning workings) Woking - Virginia Water - Woking, also Woking - Virginia Water - Surbiton - Hampton Court - Surbiton - Woking

2001 (DEC 1) De-Icing workings with 930202 in push-pull mode.

2001 (DEC 3) Hauled burnt out EMU 3555 from Clapham Yard to Wimbeldon Park.

2001 (DEC 4) Worked Woking to Brookwood, dragged back to Woking by 73109 due to traction motor fault.

2002 (JAN 15 - FEB 6) 33108 hired by Virgin Trains. Used for drivers route learning during which it worked various lines accumulating 3522 miles.

2002 (MAY 18) 33108 newly named VAMPIRE (and 33021) worked the 33111 Preservation Group railtour from Crewe to Glasgow Central via Stranraer. Both locomotives now carry Fragonset allover black livery with red stripe and full width yellow warning panel from below the cab windows. (as seen in above photos taken in May 2003)

2002 (JUL 28) 33108 Operated by Fragonset for Class 33/1 Preservation Company Ltd, returned to Southern Region passenger workings to commemorate 150 years of the Alton line. 33108 worked a passenger service from Waterloo to Woking, Woking to Alton and Alton to Waterloo.

2002 (AUG) 33108 Operated by Fragonset for Class 33/1 Preservation Company Ltd, on lease to South West Trains for crew training, Empty Coaching Stock (ECS) workings and used to move new Desiro 450xxx sets to/from Bournemouth depot for testing between Wareham - Weymouth.

2003 33108 used to move new Desiro 450xxx sets undergoing trials to/from Bournemouth depot for low speed testing between Wareham & Weymouth and to Woking for high speed testing.

2003 (APR 28) 33108 assisted the 23:55 Waterloo - Bournemouth passenger service from Woking.

2003 (MAY-JUN) 33108 moving Desiro units to/from Woking for testing.

2003 (JUN 21) 33108 + 33021 moved Desiro unit 450008 from Woking to Strawberry Hill Depot.
