COURSE SCOPE
This one-year course is designed to acquaint students with the proper techniques for vocational and personal use of the computer. Emphasis is placed on the mastery of the keyboard and the development of touch keyboarding with speed and accuracy. The applications of computer skills will be applied to the production of management information, correspondence, and a variety of business forms and communications. This course will fulfill either the one-half required computer credit and one-half elective credit or one elective credit.
COURSE GOALS 1 . To attain touch control of the computer keyboard and proper use and care of operative parts of the computer.2. To develop skills in keyboarding and ten-keying including the techniques of quick keystroking, fluent and continuous keyboarding motion patterns, and appropriate reading and keyboarding responses for building speed and accuracy.
3. To incorporate the skill of proofreading and editing documents.
4. To develop skill and appropriate techniques in the production and formatting of management information, correspondence, and a variety of business forms and communications.
5. To gain knowledge on the UNIX operating system for later use.
6. To access Windows and to set up program groups and items within the group, including ICONS.
7. To develop the ability to compose at the computer.
8. To gain knowledge of the NetWare operating system for later use.
9. To differentiate between the various operating systems on the market.
10. To develop work habits that are important success in personal and business activities.
11. To identify the employability skills and personal traits required in the world of work.
12. To develop the skills necessary to cope with job-related conflict, stress, and discrimination.
