The size of your post
depends largely on the size and number of images you embed and
the size of your sound file. Midi files provide the
smallest file size, but cannot be easily compressed.
Information on compressing wav files can be found in the Links
for Advanced Information section.
PSP will compress
your jpeg or gif for you. Select export as a jpeg file or
export as a transparent gif for compression options.
JPEG Optimizer,
available in the downloads section, is a freeware program that
does a nice job compressing jpeg images. It provides a
before and after image preview.
The way you build
your post also plays a large role in file size. For
example, using a script to fill the background with a small,
seamless tile is far more effective from a size perspective than
building the background as part of your embedded image.
You can achieve good
results in PSP6 by selecting a small section of the image.
Go to
Selections|Convert to seamless pattern. This will create a
seamless tile which can then be used by the script to fill the
background. Your image can be positioned over the tiled
background, achieving much the same look at a significantly
reduced file size.
