There were many different kinds of weapons used in the Civil
War. Weapon development was a major industry during this time.
Military developments during the American Civil War included: rifled muskets,
breach loaders, cartridge rounds, repeating rifles, gatling guns, rifled
cannons, ironclad ships, balloons, submarines...etc. The odds were
against the soldiers in the war. The North and the South both wanted
to get ahead of the other. The soldiers had to walk everywhere with
