Trinidad & Tobago is governed under a Democratic system, based on the Westminster system of Britain.

The Head of State is the President, currently Mr. Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson who was recently sworn in as the 3rd President of the Republic. The Head of Government is the Prime Minister, (Mr. Basdeo Panday).

The Prime Minister is elected by public ballot, along with other Ministers in government. The President is chosen by the Electoral College.
