Fig.-The 'Quit India Movement'

AUGUST HOUSE: In August 1942, the Congress session issued the call for a `Quit India' movement against the foreign rulers. The British government reacted with a heavy hand and sought to crush the movement by arresting its prominent leaders. But to their chagrin, the second rung of the leadership rose to the occasion, went underground and directed the movement successfully. Seen in the picture are some of them (from left) Aruna Asaf Ali, Jay Prakash Narayan, Achyut Patwardhan and others at the session.
