Fig.-Lighting fire to clothes made in England
Swadeshi, meaning indigenous, became another weapon with which the Indian masses ranged against the British. Articles, which were made abroad, became fuel for the fires of freedom, which were lit on the call for Swadeshi. Scenes like these, where a pile of foreign-made clothes wait to be lit in Bombay, were common all over the country.
