This is a major update to the earlier version of the database. Significant changes had been made to the definition of the Sightings table and many spelling errors in this table had also been corrected. This means that the current version will be somewhat incompatible with the earlier version. However, data entered into the earlier version can still be transferred into the current version although the procedure to do so is not simple. Other enhancements include more reports and improved forms. A table to catalog video recordings is added. While this is not specifically deigned to catalog bird photos, the video table can still be used for this purpose.

This list was compiled by Mr Lim Kim Chye in Feb 2001
following a posting on the Birders list about unacceptable behaviour
by some photographers. It was felt that when birders come across such
behaviour, they can contact Perhilitan (The
Department of Wildlife and National Parks Malaysia) to inform
them of the incidents. The list will also be useful for
reporting other things like poaching (birds, other animals etc).
I have designed a database in Access 97 format to keep information on all bird species found in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and to computerise bird sightings. Bird lists for several areas had already been entered into this database. To know more about it, please download the FAQ file and read it.

Due to reports of difficulty in downloading the full size database,
I have stripped it of the various bird lists and zipped the files
to facilitate downloading. As the files were zipped with Winzip Ver 6.1
for Win 95, you will need compatible softwares to unzip them.

This is the bird list provided by Glenda Noramly in Microsoft Word format. This list is meant to be a guide for those who wish to report bird sightings for Suara Enggang (the official publication of BCC - Bird Conservation Council). Sighting reports to BCC are best submitted in MS Word files using the nomenclature and font size in this file. Reference used for creating this list: Strange, M., and Jeyarajasingam, (1993) Birds, a Photographic Guide to the Birds of Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, Sun Tree, Sing. A few changes to update names, include new spp and quite a few omissions (Singapore birds, some of the extinct and vagrants) had been made.

Kledang Hill is a granite hill on the outskirts of Ipoh city and is a favourite place for joggers. It is only within 15 minutes drive from the city centre. Although not a popular spot among birders, Mr AL Tan had birded there several times and reported interesting sightings. Its a place worthy of a visit.
