Drapery Column
Back Home Up Next

The third room of the tour displays a unique formation called a drapery column. This formation is formed when calcite deposits are left behind when water runs off the ceiling at an angle. The water then will hit a stalagmite on the floor and leave another mineral deposit. Over time the two formations meet and form a column.
