| How is the Amazon Rainforest Being Destroyed? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There are two main reasons regarding why the Amazon Rainforest is endangered | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

1~ Deforestation- mainly in the Brazil area of the rainforest, and mainly done by the Brazillian residents. 2~ The harvesting of trees by locals in many different areas of the rainforest~ they do this for money, because they are poor. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

The tree that is the main target of the Brazillians is the Mahogany. This is not very good for the rainforest. Why? Well, when just one mahogany is cut down, twenty~ eight other trees will be damaged or even completely destroyed... this is 1450 square metres of rainforest gone- just like that. This is ridiculous as less than half of each mahogany that is cut down is used, and the remaining, unused, wood is either left in the rainforest to rot, or sent of to the mill. As the rainforest is being destroyed, so are the habitats of many different species of wildlife, resulting in more species becoming closer to extinction in the Amazon Rainforest- this has to stop. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Many parts of our precious rainforest are being lost because the locals are cutting down (�harvesting�) the trees. They have to cut down these trees- their only way of making money is by selling the wood that they chop down.
