DemeterDemeter is the goddess of Corn, Earth, Harvest . She is the mother of Persephone and sister of Zeus. She responds to teach humans how to grow, preserve, and prepare grain. MythDemeter daughter Persephone was kidnapped by Hades (god of underworld) because he wanted Persephone to be his wife. After Demeter knew this happen, she was so upset and angry. She turned all the plants to wither and die, the land became desolate. Later Zeus became alarmed and helping Persephone to return. However, Hades claimed on Persephone that she had eaten a pomegranate seed while in the underworld. So she needed to spend three months each year in the underworld. During these months Demeter withdraws her gifts from the world, creating winter. Her return brought the spring. |
