She made her Brittish theatrical debut as a teen-ager when she was discovered by legendary director Lindsay Anderson
and cast in "The Lily White Boys" opposite newcomers Albert Finney and Georgia Brown.After a series of photogenic walk-on roles,
she received her first major screen role when she was selected by Sir Laurence Olivier to play a bewitching Northern English beauty
queen in "The Entertainer". Immediately thereafter , she was cast in landmark film "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning", again opposite
Albert Finney. With the release of her subsequent film, the acclaimed "Man in the Moon" with Kenneth Moore, Shirley had 3 films playing
simultaneously in London by the end of that year. Arriving in Hollywood, she was cast in "War Lover" opposite Steve McQueen and Robert Wagner,
and the film "Kings of the opposite Yul Brynner. Homesick for England, she returned to London to discover that the British film industry had collapsed.
She then began a series of successful stage appearances in dramas, mysteries, comedies and thrillers on the West End, across the British Isles
and in South Africa. Subsequent film appearances include roles in "Doctor in Clover", "Hell is Empty", "Risking It" and "My Beautiful Laundrette"
winner of the 1985 London Evening Standard Award for Best Film. She also starred in the film "Shag" which came out in 1988. She is the mother of a
daughter. Santa Barbara was her first American Daytime soap debut.
