Michael Gough (1917 - ) Hammer Credits: Horror Of Dracula, The Phantom Of The Opera
Born to British parents in Malaya. Made his stage debut in 1936. Gough did not enter films until after WWII, first performing in the striking Technicolor noir melodrama in period dress, BLANCHE FURY (1947). For the next decade his appearances were intermittent and primarily in historical drama, ranging from ANNA KARENINA (1948) to Laurence Olivier's adaptation of RICHARD III (1955), with Gough as one of the murderers. With his tall, gaunt frame and brooding looks, marked especially by his thick, prominent eyebrows, Gough has frequently played villains in horror films and melodrama, or austerely British aristocrats or bureaucrats in contemporary dramas and farces. His many Hammer horror film roles began in 1958 when he supported Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee in HORROR OF DRACULA. Gough has subsequently tended to play uncooperative authority roles, somewhat sympathetic but stuffy figures who don't comprehend the nature of the menace until it's almost too late, or outright villains in films including THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1962), DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS (1965), THE SKULL (1965) and THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE (1973). Contemporary filmgoers are likely to know the venerable Gough best for conveying a touch of elderly British loyalty as Alfred the butler in the features BATMAN (1989), BATMAN RETURNS (1992) and BATMAN AND ROBIN (1997).

Lionel Jeffries (1926 - ) Hammer Credits: The Quatermass Xperiment, Up The Creek, The Revenge Of Frankenstein, Further Up The Creek, The Scarlet Blade.

British character who made an indelible mark as Quatermass in QUATERMASS AND THE PIT.

Christopher Lee (1922 - ) Hammer Credits: The Curse Of Frankenstein, Horror Of Dracula, Hound Of The Baskervilles, The Man Who Could Cheat Death, The Two faces Of Dr. Jekyll, Taste Of Fear, The Terror Of The Tongs, The Pirates Of Blood River, The Devil-Ship Pirates, The Gorgon, She, Dracula-Prince Of Darkness, Rasputin-The Mad Monk, The Devil Rides Out, Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, Taste The Blood Of Dracula, Scars Of Dracula, Dracula A.D. 1972, The Satanic Rites Of Dracula.

Herbert Lom (1917 - ) Hammer Credits: Whispering Smith Hits London, The Phantom Of The Opera, The Lady Vanishes
Born as Herbert Charles Angelo Kuchacevich ze Schluderpacheru in Prague, Czechoslovakia. A stage and screen actor in his native country from 1936, he went to England in 1939 and received additional training with the Old Vic. He has since appeared in numerous British, American, and Continental films. His piercing eyes and imposing screen personality have been equally effective for suave, dominating romantic leads and evil, menacing character parts. Memorable as Napoleon in WAR AND PEACE (1956), a role he had played early in his career in THE YOUNG MR. PITT (1942). Other genre appearences include And Now The Screaming Stops, Doppelganger, Murders In The Rue Morgue, And Then There Was None and The Sect. He is perhaps best known from as Inspector Dreyfus from the Pink Panther films.

Bela Lugosi (1882 - 1956) Hammer Credits: The Wreck Of The Mary Celeste
Born as Béla Blasko in Lugos, Hungary. The son of a banker, he trained for the stage at the Budapest Academy of Theatrical Arts. From 1901 he played lead parts on the Hungarian stage and from 1915 in films, sometimes using the name Arisztid Olt. In 1918, during the collapse of the Hungarian monarchy and the establishment of a Communist regime, he was active in politics and organized an actors' union. When the Leftists were defeated, in 1919, he fled to Germany, where he appeared in a number of films. In 1921 he emigrated to the US and began playing character parts on the stage and in films. His most notable success was in the title role of the stage presentation of Dracula, which he played for a year (1927) on Broadway and two years on the road. When he repeated the role in Tod Browning's 1931 screen version, introducing himself to film audiences with a heavy, deliberate, inimitable accent, "I am Dracula," it was clear that the American screen had found itself a worthy aristocrat of evil. On the screen, Lugosi portrayed mad scientists and demented megalomaniacs who evoked no pity or compassion in audiences. In August of 1956 he died. He was buried with his Dracula cape.

His stage and screen career began taking shape in the late 40s, after his return from WWII service as a major with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He played leads in a number of horror films and occasionally appeared in American productions. In 1973-74 he served as president of British Actors Equity. He was married to Joan Greenwood.

Dave Prowse (1909 - 1978) Hammer Credits: Horror Of Frankenstein, Vampire Circus, Frankenstein And the Monster From Hell
This tall (6' 7") muscular actor is probably best known for a role he's never been seen in. He was the actor inside the Darth Vader costume in the popular Star Wars films. He has played the part of the frankenstein monster in three films-Horror Of Frankenstein, Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell and as a gag bit in Casino Royale.
