Off the Cuff

Steven was nominated for a BAFTA for his role in Care

Empire magazine researchers read Blueshirts!: "...Starting out as a "stunning" according to his mum Dopey in a school production of Snow White..." Empire Feb 2001 - sound familar? (see below)

Background:

  • born 30 April 1967 in Cambridge
  • 1979: attended Sawston Village College near Cambridge where he got taught by this Blueshirt tailor's Dad! Steven was obviously destined for great things, with a stunning performance as Dopey in the school pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
  • 1980: The Middle School Hall was not large enough to contain such talent and Steven went to The Sylvia Young Theatre School at the age of thirteen, and was given his first acting role in "The Number of the Beast" at the Bush Theatre after 6 weeks at the school.
  • After passing his O levels, he finally left to take up his place at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge.
  • However, he decided to postpone College to play Dandy Dan in Bugsy Malone, an all kids production running in the West End. This lead to his full Equity Membership, being spotted by Sir Peter Hall, and offered the chance to join the National Theatre. He then played in a selection of Shakespearean plays for the following two years, and included a tour of Japan, Greece and presentation to the Queen on the 25th Anniversary of the National Theatre.

(above information supplied by Steven's Mum - thankyou!)

Steven Mackintosh FAQ

Yup, Steven's also on that League of Obscure British Actors site. I'm beginning to come round to their cavalier attitude towards image aquisition.
