Shot on location in UK for 1.4 million
bucks, this film will long stand as the scariest movie that was excluded
from a blind top twenty scariest films list culminated by a bunch of so
called auteurs (who voted in their own) and film types.
To so many this film proves it is
what you don't see that is scariest of all. A HORROR film rated PG, is like
a drink without a decanter. But this film shows that it can be done, and
done extremely well. You may ask yourself.. "What if it was released
in the 90s would the impact be as scary?".. Short answer YES!..
But a longer answer is pending because of a certain Spielberg who wants
to remake the scariest film to miss a list of scary films.
The remake will assume the book title,
and be directed by Jan De Bont (Twister), under Spielbergs DreamWorks
SKG, chances are there will be a more Spielberg style to the film, like
in the case of Tobe Hoopers "Poltergeist".. David Seltzer
of The Omen fame will write the script, so the movies will have difference.
Just based on the same book. Actors signed and rumored so far are Liam Neeson,
Lili Taylor and Catherine Zeta Jones..
This film is due for release in 1999,
but I would prefer The Haunting to stay as the only filmic interpretation
of this classic novel.. Unfortunately Shirley Jackson's estate believe$
otherwi$e.
