An Explanation of Portals

You step out of the portal into a small room. Across the room, a woman with blond hair sits at a desk, busily writing in a book. Since you came here to find out how portals work, you decide that you might as well ask her about them. She doesn't notice you as you walk toward the desk, so you say "Pardon me." She looks up and says:

Oh! I'm sorry! Did you come here to ask about portals? I didn't mean to keep you waiting! I'll try to explain how portals work. Portals allow a traveller to go to another place in one klick instead of the several klicks that might normally be required to get there. They're completely harmless, and you can go to all kinds of places using them. Most portals in Catlia Keep lead from one room to another, and these portals are the main method of transportation between major rooms of the Keep. You can use them if you don't want to walk through the halls of the Keep. There are, however, other portals, which go to other places. Most of these go to places outside the Realms of the Great Web, and those places are deep inside The Forest of the Great Web. A few go to other parts of the Realms, too. You'll find some of these portals in the Portal Room.

Over against the wall, there are portals that lead to the major parts of Catlia Keep.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Catlia Keep. If you get confused about how portals work, come back here to see me, and I'll tell you again.

She smiles as she sits back down at the desk, and points you toward the portals she indicated earlier, telling you to choose your destination.
