It was really very sad to see all the planes leave, all the new housing empty and the bases shut down. I was here trying to find an alumni list or site to the last seniors to graduate there . My husband and I took the seniors to Portugal for their senior class trip. I know my son, Rob has been wondering what has happened to so many of his friends. Derrick Booth: RAF Bentwaters, Base Engineer's office, June 1953-60... Booth's Beacons ... Listing a Major Leib: he was one of my early bosses. before him was Capt. Harry Bisher, a fine man and WWII P38 pilot. I was an architectural engineering draughtsman and helped design the flightline fire station and practice tower, new control tower, plywood gymnasium, library, PX, base engineer's office, special weapons storage area and alert hangars, recreation area, runway barrier on 26 extension (or was it 27), and many other interesting projects, like planning the new base hospital. Had many good colleagues, one was Capt. William (Bill) Jeans, former C47 pilotwith an English wife from Lancashire, and his children were all carrot-tops. In 1980 I fetched up in Texas. Spent much time in AZ. My Wife is New York born, Texas-raised. Many of those dreams I dreamed when I worked at Bentwaters came true. If there is anyone who remembers me please try my e-mail. I lived in Woodbridge Town on Seckford Street and then Pytches Road. Spent a lot of time at the Mariner's Arms and the King's Head. I was Airman of the Year for the 81st TFW for 1984. Among the best times of my life. Went back for a visit last year (to WB Town) and cried when I saw the base. Even though I'm glad to be out of the service, I sure miss being in the 81st. 3/4/99

Just looked over the web page and noticed many familiar events and days especially the November crash on the runway.Memories I remember Ron Burrel and have corresponded with him in hopes of tracking down friends. I also noticed Dooley Gray's name as a fireman....Dooley was a member of the Suffolk County Titans football team. There were others like Knobby Walsh (Knobby came out of retirement to kick field goals for us). Dave Korcep was the coach of the team at that time and Paul Green was the QB. Al Berning played as well. I am sorry to see that Chappie James passed away....he was a real class guy. Visited Ipswich in 1997 and rode by Bentwaters. It looks very deserted. Hopefully the private sector will build it up into a vital community. I was one of approx 100 who re-opened RAF Bentwaters in April 1951. Was attached to the Motor Vehicle Sq. Guy's I remember were Bob Byers, Ohio, a fella by the name of Malcom, Arkansas, Richie, NY, Art DeVose, Iowa, our best man, unfortunately died several years back. In my quonset(?) hut there was a fella by (I believe) the name of Williams an AP. Transferred from RAF Bentwaters to Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire around Feb 1952. *Jesse (Dan) Daniel: Dallas, Texas. RAF Bentwaters, Disaster Control Officer for the first F-4s going to Vietnam in 1965-68. Later became Squadron Cmdr, HQ Squadron, 81st TFW. I was accompanied by my wife Kathy and daughter Michelle. We all enjoyed our tour in England very much, although the ORIs were very demanding and extremely hectic. Kathy was Vice-President of the OWC and had many friends during our tour. COL Searles was Wing Commander of RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge. COL Melton was Vice Wing Commander and COL Woody Parramore was Base Commander. Spent my twenty years and retired in 1981. Having a daughter in Law School, I took up another career and am still having fun at it. I own an Engineering/Aerospace Search/Headhunter Firm. Kathryn and I would love to hear from anyone stationed there during that time period. Unfortunately we lost several dear friends who were either shot down or killed in base attacks in Vietnam. Our daughter Michelle and husband are both attorneys and we are the proud grandparents of three. Our life is good as we are both in good health and doing well. Cy Frederick : Trying to locate John Stacy. Used to play darts with him at Kings Head Inn, Southwold, while stationed at RAF Bentwaters, mid-fifties. He was dating a girl living there and several time was picked up by the air police at her home for AWOL. Think he was assigned to RAF Bentwaters or RAF Woodbridge.
