He was in the 81st supply that deals with fuel (?). He is married to Sheila and has two daughters, one is 20 at Mercy College studying pre-vet, the other daughter Kelly, age 14, 9th grade, FPM in NY.   • Gary Montecalvo : Martlesham Heath, 1975-76, 2164th. What a great site. We had some great times, parties, flag football team, Running Buck and rec room. Names that come to mind, Mark Muchow, Frank Hickey, Hank Staron, John Barrett, Russ Rearick, Mark Tarplee, Ken Wipf, Bernie Vancel, Al Gardine, Brad Ahrens, Kevin Milligan, Tom Day, Dennis Midhoffer, Capt Wadorsnik, Capt Hashimoto, Terry Gilliland and many more but have forgotten their names. Bentwaters had a great gym, better food and great football games. The F4's were very impressive with their powerful afterburners and noise. It is sad to see weeds growing on the deserted base. The whole experience was great. I learned after joining MCI, 2/3rds of the people working in civ comm field were ex-military. Thinking back, what a great deal, travel, great friends, free education, we had it made.12/09/98

  • John W Page: Lacey, WA. Stationed at Bentwaters 1955-57 with a detachment of the 1st Tactical Depot Squadron, 81st Supply Sq, later to the 91st FBS. Lived in the old huts with oil stoves. Worked on the far side of the runway in the bomb dump maintaining the Mk7 Mod 4E nuc weapons. The 81st Wing flew F-84F's in those days. Have many fond memories of my days at Bentwaters, and weekends in London and Southend. Also stationed at Wethersfield and Sculthorpe for a few months each. If any of the TDS or bomb dump troopers who recognize my name read this, send an e-mail. have an alumni association which has a reunion planned in Southern CA this fall. I stayed in AF for 22 years, have now been retired almost that long.
  • Gerald O Palmer: Roseburg, OR 97470. RAF Bentwaters. I was among the first Americans to move into RAF Bentwaters as a member of the 81st FIW, Aug-Sep 1951. The fighter planes were F-86s. My part was as a heavy equipment operator in AIO Sq. Did things like sweeping the ramps and perimeters, and plowed snow on the runways in winter. Some of the runway lights took a beating then. It was a WW11 style base, with Nisson huts and buildings everywhere. Came from Larson AFB by way of Camp Kilmer, NJ. While there, my buddy and I bought a 1934 Fiat touring car. We had a lot of fun, and drank a lot of beer at Eyke pub. My tour was up June 1954. Anyone wishing to correspond is welcome. 3/4/99

  • John Reed Msg (Ret. USAF): RAF Bentwaters, 1960-64 and 1973-74 until retirement. It was a very good but rough time in the 60's, but with the people there at the time how could we miss. There is a Colonel? on the page. Perhaps you are thinking of Col. Crouch(left in 1960). (not the right Base Cmdr, was Wing Cmdr...Jim.) Remember him and his Saturday morning parades. Was in the 81st A&E Sq. w/Major McGlynn as CO. Worked at RAF Woodbridge with Msg Dan Hymer, A1c Oscar Williams, Al Schoessow, Col. Burns 92nd, Col. Stuyvesant 78th (spelling?), Col Strickland-Not sure-this was towards the end of my first tour, Major Drew? I recall him as being the Maintenance Office in Maint. Control. Certainly, he set a speed record with one of the F101's, Zeigert, Gregory, "Buster" Reed 78th, and two more who should be remembered: Lt. Bye and Lt. Nishabayashi (again, spelling and with apologies), To best of my knowledge, they are both deceased - killed in A/C accidents there. We still correspond with friends and keep informed of what is happening. Excellent people and have visited them. Rememberances. 2/8/99
