Here are four key points that I live buy:

  1. DONT be embarrassed - This is the most important and the most difficult to follow. You will feel some embarrassment at times, but dont let it stop you from expressing yourself. Believe me, when you start showing confidence in yourself, people will listen to you. They will enjoy talking to you!

  2. Always stay POSITIVE - This is another difficult one; the key point here is to stay positive with your stuttering, even if nothing else in your life is. What I mean by this is simply turn a bad situation into a good one.

    • For Example: When I answer the phone for work, I will stutter on my companys name. I know for atleast 2 seconds (as Im picking up the phone) there is extreme tension, as the fear of a block (stuttering on a word or phrase) will happen. Which in turn causes more tension during the phone conversation then is necessary. So, I will release some of this tension by making a subtle and small joke. This will help the person on the other end and myself a great deal. The one thing I will not do is lie about my stuttering. All I say is that I am a person who stutters. I will not apologize!!

  3. F#*K you attitude - This is pretty straightforward. Why should you care what anybody else thinks about you, but you!!!!!

  4. Laugh at trivial things - What you should be concerned with is the big picture and not all the little petty bull crap that is out there to bring you down!!! You tend to get along easier with everything, if you allow yourself to laugh at it, every once in a while. Especially, the things you have no control over.
