Some Reactions

Here are some reactions I usually get when someone first realizes that I stutter:

  1. Maybe first person theyve met that stutters

    • Laugh - They usually do this, because they dont know how else to react. I try my best at this point to make them as comfortable as I can. I dont blame them, because they dont know any better. I will not purposely embarrass them. How could I, if I wouldnt want them to embarrass me.

    • Feel Sorry - This reaction is the one I really cant stand. They may unintentionally make me feel like I have a disease. I guess thats why Im making this website so people like this will not do this anymore.

    • Finish Your Sentences - The type of person who feels sorry for me will tend to finish my sentences for me. Which will help them more then me. I really need to struggle through every word and phrase if I want to get better at my stuttering. If I allow people to do this I will use that as a crutch and it will only hurt me. Please, if you tend to do this to people who stutter, DONT it only frustrates the stutter and makes them feel incompetent.

  2. Ignorant people - This is pretty straightforward, people just dont know any better or care to learn more about stuttering. So, they will just harass you for the fun of it.
