BLACKROSE ENTERPRISES

VIDNET

http://www.vidnetusa.com

With both MTV and VH1 devoting smaller and smaller segments of time to showing music videos, it's fair to say that if you miss your favorite band's clip you may have to wait a while before it reappears. But now, with the advent of video-on-demand sites such as the newly launched Vidnet, you can see that video as often as you want. Download the VivoActive streaming video plug-in, twist your monitor to face the couch, and you're ready to sit back and watch hundreds of videos, organized by genre. To the sites credit, Vidnet has remained bleeding edge; it even has the uncut version of the latest controversial (and banned) Prodigy video. Not that we watched it, of course.

QRADIO

http://www.qradio.net

Quincy Jones, music impresario bar none, has just launched his first foray onto the Internet. Qradio refreshingly steers away from showcasing Jones' many industry accolades and recording triumphs, instead shining its spotlight on his favorite world music. QR's premiere iteration, for example, focuses on South Africa. Hear RealAudio samples of Jones' favorite South African acts, read about them and their homeland, purchase their records, and also tune into live streaming South African radio stations.

We look forward to this rich site's next installment.

ALL ABOUT JAZZ

http://www.allaboutjazz.com

All About Jazz is way more polished than its tag line--"a magazine for jazz fans by jazz fans"--would lead you to believe. The design is sophisticated, yet clean; and the Real Audio record reviews sound like professionals wrote and recorded them. What's more, the quantity of material is amazing: The site covers classic jazz history as well as the latest releases from today's players. You get interviews, record and book reviews, and surprisingly

well-written critical essays. Not enough? You also get a chance to swap vinyl with other collectors, find out what's happening at festivals around the country, peruse listings for national jazz radio broadcasts, and follow links to other jazzbo sites on the Net. An excellent resource.

SONICNET

http://www.sonicnet.com

Most music-scene hipsters are well aware of SonicNet, one of the pioneering music news, commentary, and lifestyle zines on the Web. Earlier this year, SonicNet partnered with conglomerate du jour, TCI. The fruits of this labor have just fallen from the tree: a freshly designed Web site with a cleaner look, easier navigation, and promised new features. Currently in a soft-launch (usually a euphemism for a past-deadline project that must put something up to appease investors), SonicNet still culls its news and reviews from its sister station, Addicted to Noise, but also offers streamland (a video-on-demand section) and an as-yet-unveiled section, "The Station." We'll keep checking back to see what "upper six figures" will get you in a relaunch these days.

J.H. CAMPBELL MARKETING

http://www.jhcampbell.com

Usually we don't review sites that do little more than promote a business, but we'll make an exception here. This marketing firm has put together one of the best-designed corporate sites we've seen; if you're in marketing or advertising, it would behoove you to pay a visit. Our recommendation not so much endorses the

Companys services as it prods you to realize how high the benchmark has risen for a corporate site's structural design, overall presentation, and navigability.
